Dear New York Annual Conference Family:

By now you have heard of Sunday’s devastating Metro North train derailment in New York City. Four persons lost their lives and many were injured. One of the deceased was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Newburgh, New York. I write to solicit your prayers for the family and for the congregation that now journeys to provide care. Moreover, I ask that you pray for all who have been impacted by this horrific tragedy.

As United Methodists, we have consistently relied on prayer. In this instance we stand on the scriptural reminder, the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much (adapted, James 5:16).

All my prayers,

Bishop Martin D. McLee
