Celebrating Women's History Month with the addition of new books by women.

The 2010 movie, Wesley: A Heart Transformed Can Change the World is a great film to show to a confirmation class or at a special small group gathering.

The Resource Library has several new titles that honor the role of women in biblical history.  One particularly exciting new title, Spiritual Sisterhood: Mentoring Women of Color, focuses on the role model of those women in creating the future.  The titles include:

Two new titles on prayer have been added to the Resource Library: Knit One, Purl a Prayer by Peggy Rosenthal and Praying in Black and White: A Hands-on Practice for Men by Sybil MacBeth.

Dr. Randy Paige, pastor at Christ UMC in Port Jefferson Station, is the author of a children's book, I Wish I could Stay Here Forever, a story and parable about experiencing the joy of life, facing death, and trusting God.

The Resource Library contains a vast amount of material including Advent picture books for children (currently located in the Advent Resource display in the Learning Center) and several novels that have proven popular in Bible Study classes.

The United Methodist Publishing House has produced its first Bible translaton in its 222-year history of Methodist publishing in the U.S.  The Common English Bible has received acclaim for its interdenominational and scholarly translation using the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts.

2011 marks the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible!  Three new resources in the Resource Library provide insight into the history of the KJV, including its unpopularity when it first appeared,  how the KJV played a key role in cultural changes in the past 400 years, and how the KJV continues to have influence today.

Advent planning is underway!  Heeding the Call to Action, it's time to try something new.  Check out what new resources are available in the Resource Library that can help make Advent 2011 more meaningful for your community.

Save the date!  Beginning Dec. 5, 2011 six webnairs will be available through GBOD.  Topics that follow up on the NYAC's March Children's Summit include bullying, cyberbullying and nurturing caregivers in faith formation.  Also a refresher coursein Safe Sanctuaries that could serve as an in-house training will be available.  Instructions on how you can access the webnair will be available soon through GBOD - and repeated here.

Worship & Song published in the Spring of 2011 is the latest addition to the United Methodist Book of Worship (1992) and contains new music as well as services, acts of worhsip and other worship resources.

Two new titles in the Learning Center continue discussion started at the NYAC's Children's Summit: And A Child Shall Lead Us held March 25 - 26, 2011:  Teaching Godly Play: How to Mentor the Spiritual Development of Children  by Jerome W. Berryman and Formational Children's Ministry: Shaping Children Using Story, Ritual and Relationship by Ivy Beckwith.

Two New Bible Study series are available: one for youth and one from college age and up.  Exploring God's Purpose for Your Life is a six session series designed for young people seeking God's purpose for their lives.   The Faith and Practice of the Earliest Christians featuring Tony Jones looks at the life and practice of the Early Church through the late first century text, the Didache.

Stories of biblical women are interwoven with modern day women in fifty reflections in Clothed With the Sun by Joyce Hollyday.

God Sightings: The One Year Bible and God Sightings: Learning to Experience God Every Day Companion Guide provide readings lasting about 20 minutes a day which help individuals see God at work in one's own life and in the world around one. The reflection questions and opportunities to journal in the companion guide help provide focus for the readings.  Designed so that one can begin any day of the year, God Sightings is a wonderful choice for a Lenten group or individual study.
