2014 Ghana Mission

Joseph Ewoodzie

September 09, 2014

Our hearts are heavy with sadness and sorrow for the loss of our visionary leader Bishop McLee. We pray that we here in Ghana could accomplish the  assignment he gave us in His memory as a fulfillment of his dream.   We are in day 4 of our journey and we would like to link this blog to the NYAC website as we remember the ministry and passion of Bishop McLee. Please find the link to our blog: http://ghanavim2014.blogspot.com.

Day 4 – Heather Ungerer Today was out third work day.  It began with a breakfast that consisted of rolls and fresh fruit. One thing I will miss terribly about Ecuador is the freshness and natural taste of the fruit. With full stomachs and well rested bodies we drove to the work site.  Today we found two huge piles of rocks greeting us at the work site.  Our task was to spread these rocks over the yard.  This seems to be a simple task, but it was extremely tedious. Already, on the third work day,...

Day 5 – Bomin Choi First thing that comes to mind about this day, LAST DAY OF WORK!! After hard shoveling, digging and wheelbarrowing, for three straight days, I couldn’t help but naturally feel a little relieved once Thursday came.  We continued spreading out the rocks from Wednesday.  At first it seemed impossible, but foot by foot the ground was steadily being covered.  After we finished flattening out all the pile of rocks, I took a step back and had to blink twice to realize what I saw.  In...

Day 7 – Hetheru Shango Today is the day we have all been looking forward to, the day we go into the hot springs.  We were less than a five-minute walk from the hotel in Baños.  When we get to the place, we find out that the girls have to wear shower caps in the water.  I was planning to get my whole head wet and just lay back.  When we saw the area where the hot spring was, everybody was turned off.  It was a good amount of people in the warm springs and the hot spring.  The water looked dirty ...

Day 8 – Stefanie Henry Today is the final day of our trip.  There are mixed feelings amongst the little family we have formed for the duration of our stay in Ecuador.  There are some who are eager to go home to their families and return to their life in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut.  Others, like myself, would be fine with a few extra days to enjoy one another’s company and really soak in the culture, but whether or not we are ready – it is time to go home. Our day started bright and ...

Youth Ambassadors (YAMS) Ecuador 2013, Day 0

VIM Teams

February 21, 2013

YAMs enjoy some time to have dinner, and even do some homework, after their first day in Ecuador. The first day the YAMS meet with each other after the last meeting in New Rochelle. We bonded with each other very well, and it was all during our six hour layover in Bogota, Columbia. However, it never did feel like six hours; it felt more like three hours of laughing, playing cards and telling jokes as well as sharing information about one another. Although we didn’t and still do not remember ...

Youth Ambassadors (YAMS) Ecuador 2013, Day 1

February 21, 2013

Today was our first day doing vacation bible school with the kids. I was so excited! We had already met some of the kids from the church service on Sunday, and I saw them coming in as I was finishing my job today. When we walked in after my team completed our job, I saw some new faces and some from the church service, and we began saying our names and ages to introduce ourselves in Spanish. Soon a 7 year old girl named Victoria came in and sat next to me with a huge smile and was such a ...
