Upcoming Safe Sanctuary Workshops
There are four workshops planned for Summer and Fall 2009 throughout the conference.
  1. August 19 & September 23:  Introduction to Safe Sanctuaries at United Methodist Conference Center, White Plains, NY.  Click on White Plains for more information.
  2. August 29 & September 26:  Introducton to Safe Sanctuaries at Woodycrest UMC, Bronx, NY.  Click on Woodycrest for more information.
  3. September 12Advanced.  Youth and children workers' training for churches with a Safe Sanctuaries Policy at Korean MC and Institute, Manhattan.  Click on Korean for more information.
  4. October 17:  Advanced.  Youth and children workers' training for churches with a Safe Sanctuaries Policy at Woodbury UMC, Woodbury, CT.  Click on Woodbury for more information.

Teacher Training - 2 events
"Rock Solid, Building a Heart of Faith" 
  •  September 12:  Primary and elementary school-age teacher training at Jesse Lee UMC, Ridgefield, CT, 9:30 am-3:30 pm; featuring interactive teaching tools, classroom setup and management and a special emphasis on children's spirituality.  Presented by Lynda Gomi, Children's Consultant and Ann Pearson.
  • September 19:  At Hempstead UMC, Hempstead, NY, 9:30 am-3:30 pm; same as above.

Gloster B. Current, Sr. Scholarship
The Gloster B. Current, Sr. Scholarship was established in memory of Gloster B. Current, Sr. to encourage young persons of African descent to pursue careers in public service, such as, the ministry, social work, health care or government service.  The applicant must attend an accredited institution of higher education, have leadership potential, financial need and be recommended by a pastor of a United Methodist Church.  The application deadline is August 15, 2009.  Click GB Current Scholarship for a copy of the application or one may be secured by calling John Carrington at (917) 617-4360 or by email:  johnecarrington@aol.com

Bishop Park MarathonRace for Mission Marathon
 
Join Bishop Park on Saturday, October 10, in Bushnell Park, Hartford, at 8:00 AM and is in connection with the Hartford Marathon and the Bishop's Partners in Mission.  There are several distances to choose from, including a Kids Run and Team Relay.  Click on Marathon for information.  To register click on Race for Mission.  The registration deadline is September 26.

The C. Wesley Christman Archives of the New York Annual Conference has a number of extra copies of the following remaining pamphlets.  The publication dates are in parenthesis.  We'd like to offer them free to anyone who'd like them and we can send you as many copies as you want as long as they are available.  All we ask in return is that you reimburse us for postage.

  • From Chore Boy to Bishop:  the story of Francis Burns, first missionary bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church (1970)

These pamphlets offer a rich view of Methodist history in New York.  Please email archivist Mary Robison at archives@nyac.com with the titles and number of copies, and include your name and street address for mailing.

  1. THE  PICTORIAL DIRECTORY FOR THE NY ANNUAL CONFERENCE has been published and is available for viewing online.  To access the directory, type in the URL address: http://om349519.onlineolanmills.com.  You must type in the case-sensitive password to view the directory: EXgdgT.
  2. WORSHIP PLANNING CALENDARS for 2009 and 2010 are available free simply by downloading them.  They are extremely helpful for worship leadership teams, church school and others.  Or, if you prefer, there is a 2-page Revised Common Lectionary 2009 that includes holidays, special Sundays and liturgical colors.  This is a helpful reference for Altar Guilds, worship leadership teams, and others.
