Pastor Photos Now on NYAC.Com Church Locator!
Our conference Web site now includes the names and photos of pastors for each church.  Please take a look at your church page by clicking "Church Locator" on the home page of www.nyac.com, and searching by church "Name or City" and/or "Zip Code."  If your pastor's photo is missing and you would like to add one, please send the photo to our webmaster, Barbara Eastman, via email at website@nyac.com
 
Your church now has access to a very powerful tool specifically for local churches, which we are referring to as the Local Church Dashboard.  The pastor or their designate is now able to update your local church information and add information such as "Classifieds" to add staff openings, items wanted, etc. and "Events" to add events at your church to your church page. 
 
For information on this Dashboard and instructions please click here> and add the URL to your Favorites.
 
There are fields that cannot be changed in the Dashboard (church name and address) - if any of that information is incorrect, please send an email to our webmaster at website@nyac.com with the correct information.  Please be sure to include your church name in the email. 
Upcoming Archives Workshops
The Commission on Archives and History has scheduled two workshops:
  1. Sat., January 30Church Records and Archives Management Workshop at the NY Annual Conference Center, White Plains; noon-4:00 pm.  Attendance is limited to 25.  This workshop is intended to support and assist pastors, administrative assistants, trustees and local church historians by introducing participants to basic archival concepts.  Hands-on activities will be included.  Lunch is provided at noon; the workshop begins at 1:00 pm.  
  2. Sat., March 6:  Genealogy Workshop at the NY Annual Conference Center, White Plains; 1:00-4:00 pm.  Attendance is limited to 25.  This workshop will include discussions with Saugerties historian, author and genealogist Audrey Klinkenberg.  Audrey has been president of the Ulster County Genealogical Society, registrar of a local DAR chapter and serves as the historian for the town of Saugerties, NY.  She writes, "At this workshop we will be focusing on genealogy at the beginning.  Come prepared to ask questions and be ready to find new avenues for research."

PACT - Zurich - Winter Hazard Education Program:
What you need to do to prepare in cold weather conditions.  This information helps you protect your employees and property during the winter season.  It addresses ways to help you mitigate the damage caused by winter weather; offers assistance regarding the steps to take to protect your building and employees prior to a storm; and offers assistance for during and after storm activities.  Click here> to view and/or print.
A New Blog from our Children's Coordinator
We all face the challenge of keeping Sunday School a special place for our children and to help with this check out Lynda Gomi's new blog at http://www.nyac.com/blogs (or from the the NYAC Web site click on "News" at the top of the page and select "Blogs".)  Lynda will be working 2 weeks ahead of the Rock Solid curriculum come January and posting adaptations and ideas in the blog.  Be sure and send any ideas of "things that worked" to Lynda Gomi at lgomi@nyac.com or to LearningCenter@nyac.com to be included in the blog.

6 Week Online Workshop "Writing Your Safe Sanctuary Policy"
January 11 - February 12 online Safe Sanctuary workshop "Writing Your Safe Sanctuary Policy."  Three participants from each congregation must enroll:  generally a Trustee, staff or PPR/SPRC representative, and one leader with children and/or youth (such as a Sunday School superintendent).
 
Participants will need to purchase the Joy Thornburg Melton book "Safe Sanctuaries: Reducing the Risk of Child Abuse in the Church".

The United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) currently send VIM teams to the following countries:  Biloxi, Iowa, Chile, Haiti, Ghana, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mozambique, Youth Ambassadors, Thailand/Cambodia.  For a general schedule of missions, dates, leaders and contact information click here to go to the NYAC Web site mission page and click "Volunteers in Mission Trip Opportunities 2010" in the left column or click on the country you are interested in.

Bishop Rueben P. Job's New Devotional "When You Pray" Daily Practices for Prayerful Living
 
When You Pray book coverPrayer is one of the most important areas of a Christian's life.  In When You Pray, Bishop Rueben P. Job explores the daily practices of living a prayerful life with this thoughtful devotional.
 
When You Pray is an excellent tool to use in daily prayer time and, while linked to the Revised Common Lectionary, non-lectionary users will feel comfortable reading this as well.
 
This stand-alone devotional can also be used for churches participating in Becoming a Praying Congregation as the leader, team members, congregation, small groups, families and individuals will be encouraged to use this resource in their prayer time.

    • Revised Common Lectionary for 2010 is available free simply by downloading it.  This is a helpful reference for Altar Guilds, worship leadership teams, and others.
