July 27, 2010
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
The Board Members, staff and Lay Speakers once again take this opportunity to invite you to come out and make your presence felt on September 18th, 2010, at our Annual Far Rockaway Mission Walk-A-Thon on the boardwalk. This year we will feature our very first “Banner Parade.”
For over 25 years the Mission has daily served the needs (yes, much more than a meal) of all who come to our door. This was a landmark year for the Mission as we moved into our new and very improved space and we have finally been able to resume having worship services every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.
In spite of what we have accomplished to date, there is still much more that needs to be done. Much of the community we serve has not recovered from the downturn in our economy. The Mission, seeing the need now serves, in addition to hot lunches, breakfast to persons heading out to work or seeking employment. We have been blessed to be able to provide this service based on donated bakery products; however, donations do not cover the costs for beverages as the numbers we serve continue to grow. Let us keep in mind that on many days, persons who partake of the meals do so because it is their only opportunity for nourishment. According to the scriptures, the poor will always be among us. The staff has experienced the joy and seen the blessings that are derived from this ministry. They also know the sinking feeling of not being able to meet a need. That is why we are now asking our church family to help us by supporting this special Ministry of the United Methodist Church.

We request that all donations be sent in by September 17th. Please make all checks payable to the Far Rockaway Mission, and mail it to: The Far Rockaway Mission, P.O. Box 900875, Far Rockaway, New York 11691-0875, Attn: Ms. Delores Coleman, Registrar.
We greatly appreciate your giving; however, please do not forget to come out on September 18, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. sharp on the boardwalk at Beach 9th Street in Far Rockaway to assemble for the Banner Parade. Be reminded to bring your church’s or organization’s banner to display in support of this effort (we plan to have media coverage). Also, remember that if you do not plan to walk in the Banner Parade, you can walk in the Walk-A-Thon anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Let us raise our banners high, let our faith be seen and give God praise for the marvelous ways He is using His people. Together we can “Stamp Out Poverty.”
Sincerely,
The Fund Raising Committee of
The Far Rockaway Mission
