Mrs. Estelle Miller Jackson

8/28/2014

Let us remember Estelle Miller Jackson of Corinth, who died at the Blue Spruce Home for the Retired in Bradford, Vermont on August 28, 2014 at the age of 103.

Born Eleanor Estelle Miller on September 25, 1910, the daughter of Nathaniel Edward Miller and Eleanora Wilhelmina vonPeyn Miller in Plainview, Long Island, NY. Estelle graduated from Huntington High School in 1928. On June 12, 1934 she married the Reverend Edgar Newman Jackson in Centerport, NY.

They were the parents of 3 children: Edgar Duval (1935-1936), James Ward (1938-1972) and Lois Estelle Jackson. Estelle and Edgar served Methodist parishes in Centerport, NY, Thomaston, New Haven: Park, Winsted, and Bridgeport: Newfield, CT and Mamaroneck, NY. During those years, in addition to her work in those parishes, Estelle was a secretary for the Long Island Lighting Co. and the Board of Missions of The Methodist Church.

In 1937 Estelle and Edgar became founding members of the Chelsea Farm Society, a cooperative of seven Methodist ministers’ families located in Corinth. They built a cottage and spent every summer on their beloved hillside.  They retired to Corinth Corner, VT in 1965.

Estelle was a master of all of the domestic arts; cooking and baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and entertaining. Invitations to her legendary dinner parties were greatly sought-after.

Committed to swimming, she drove to Randolph 3 times a week for a water aerobics program.

Travel was also fulfilling, accompanying Edgar on lecture tours to Australia, Europe and throughout the US and Canada. Following his death in 1994, she continued her travels to Europe and the US with her daughter, Lois.

Estelle Jackson will be remembered for her ebullient personality, her positive outlook on life and her concern for others.

She is survived by her daughter, Lois, of Corinth, Granddaughters; Andrea Mayerson of Milwaukee WI, and Julie Guenther of Corinth and Denver, CO., 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the East Corinth Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 645 Village Road, East Corinth, VT 05040.
