Let us remember the life and ministry of Rev. Lloyd Eugene Dees of Rincon, GA who died on February 4, 2016 at the age of 85. Lloyd was born December 12, 1930 in Camden, AL to Martin W. Dees and Maggie McCants Dees.
 
After serving the African Methodist Episcopal church from 1961 to 1972, Rev. Dees was admitted to the Western North Carolina Conference of the UMC. He transferred to the West Virginia Conference in 1973, where he became a full member, and to the New York Conference in 1974. In New York he served the following churches: Woodycrest UMC, Bronx; Taft UMC, Manhattan; Trinity UMC, White Plains (in the 1970s and again in the 1990s); St. Mark’s UMC, Brooklyn; St. Paul’s UMC, Inwood; and Freeport UMC. Lloyd retired in 1999. After retirement he served Aldersgate UMC in Dobbs Ferry from 2003 to 2004.
 
In 1957 Lloyd married Dolores Mills. They have a son and daughter-in-law, Jason Lloyd and Crystal Dees of Port Wentworth, GA, and a daughter, Janet Dees of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by seven brothers and one sister.
 
In retirement Rev. Dees and his wife relocated to Georgia. He was an associate minister at historic Trinity United Methodist Church in Savannah, GA under Rev. Enoch Hendry. Lloyd was known for his beautiful voice, often singing the gospel song “If I Can Help Somebody” during Communion at this church.
 
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Savannah, GA at a future date. Arrangements will be announced by the Baker-McCullough Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
