Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Rev. Sydney L. Parker, 93, who died at Benchmark Senior Living in Hamden, CT on August 10, 2016.
 
Rev. Parker was born on June 16, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Joseph and Zedonia (Zeda) Lasky. He was a graduate of the City College of New York and the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a medic. He was a long-time member of the Wallingford Senior Center, where he led a bible study.
 
Rev. Parker served in the New York Conference for 32 years from 1956 until his retirement in 1988. Churches he served were: Middle Hope and Marlboro UMCs in NY; Dover Plains & Wingdale UMCs in NY; Philmont UMC in NY; St. Paul's UMC in Oyster Bay, NY; Warwick UMC in NY; Trinity UMC in LaGrangeville, NY, and Wallingford UMC in CT.
 
Survivors include two daughters, Madeline R. Parker of Wallingford, CT and Bernice E. Parker of Watertown, MA; one brother and his wife, Gerard D. and Selma Parker, of NY; one granddaughter, Sarah P. Yesko, of CA and two nieces, Jodi Seidner of CT and Nadine Jacobson of NY. Rev. Parker was predeceased by his wife, Liselotte (Lottie) Furth Parker, and his oldest daughter, Susan E. Parker, of NY.
 
A memorial service in his honor will be held at the Cheshire United Methodist Church, 205 Academy Road, Cheshire, CT 06410 on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private at the Ferncliff Mausoleum in Hartsdale, NY.
