The first and, for many people, the most difficult to answer, concerns the questions of family and friends centering around moving from a known, comfortable home to a family member’s home or a more institutional setting. How do I talk to my family member about leaving her/his home for health and safety reasons?

Talking with someone we love about a terminal diagnosis is understandably a difficult thing to do. And so “How do I talk to my loved one about terminal diagnosis, about death and his or her wishes?” easily becomes the most frequent question I get asked in my work.

How do we decide if it is time to move from a more aggressive approach to a less aggressive approach in treating our loved one?
