• Chile Mission

The main focus for our Chile mission is to work with the United Methodist Church in Chile in helping the Mapuche people with education opportunities, children ministries, job training in agriculture and training Pastors and church leaders.

 

Our first volunteer in mission team (VIM) was scheduled for March 6 – 13, 2009. This first VIM team included volunteers from Chinese United Methodist Church, Park Avenue United Methodist Church and Jackson Heights Community Church. Our hope is to begin developing a strong relationship with our brothers and sister of Chile. A healthy relationship is key to regain dignity, unity and trust for development.

 

Chile has a strong history of resistance to colonialism. Today, the multinational corporations continue in their long-standing efforts to exploit the resources of the Mapuche and to subdue their ongoing struggle. The Unite Methodist Church in Chile is helping the Mapuche people to be independent through education, feeding the children, preventive medicine, job training in agriculture and other areas.
