Response Teams Forming for Puerto Rico
The Methodist Church of Puerto Rico (MCPR), in partnership with UMCOR and UMVIM, has announced that it is now receiving applications for both Early Response and Rebuild/Construction (UMVIM) teams.
All team requests are being handled through Conference Disaster Response Coordinators. Please click on the following link for more information. If you are interested in leading an ERT or UMVIM team please contact Tom Vencuss (tvencuss@nyac.com).
Early Response Team to Texas – January 20 to 27
Simsbury UMC is sponsoring an Early Response Team to Texas, January 20 to 27. There are still 2 or 3 spots open on the team. Vincente and Cassandra Broadus-Garcia were there recently and report that there is still extensive damage and need in many areas. If you are interested in joining this team or would like additional information please contact Cassandra at 860-680-6807 as soon as possible.
Florida Response Team
A team of ten: Steven and Janet Gagliano, from Babylon; Rev. Arlene Wilhelm, from Hyde Park; Jackson Rogers, from New Paltz; Pastor Joseph Piccirillo, Kevin Sweet, and David Crompton, from Avon; Peter Hoernes, from Shrub Oak; and Tom and Wendy Vencuss, are currently in Marathon, Florida assisting with the relief effort. This team is the first UMC Early Response Team in this area and is currently working on several locations which will eventually house volunteer team.
Still Needing Team Leaders
We are still needing Team Leaders for Texas, Florida, West Virginia, and other domestic project sites. If you are interested please contact Tom Vencuss.

- February 17 at Centerport UMC (alt date Feb 24)
- Registration 8:30 class 9 AM to 4 PM
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must submit to a background check
- Cost - $10 to cover the background check
- Bring a bag lunch, coffee and tea provided.
