Dear Treasurers, Finance Chairs and Pastors,

You may remember that we worked with a company called Cost Stewardship, a vetted partner of our denomination's finance agency, to help churches obtain federal refunds of healthcare costs.  Our Conference was the most successful of any in the U.S. with our churches receiving total healthcare refunds of $78,555.  These funds, available for vital ministries, went directly to the churches that engaged Cost Stewardship to perform the service.  That program is now over but there is another opportunity to reduce costs in the form of utility bills.  

If you are interested, Cost Stewardship will review your utility bills, search for over-billings or errors and identify if lower costs are available in your area.  Their goal is to find billing errors and ensure you are purchasing electricity from your existing supplier at the lowest rates available.  The requirements to participate in this program are minimal.  All a church needs to do is to provide a recent utility bill and sign a letter authorizing Cost Stewardship to retrieve data from the utility company.

There are no fees for Cost Stewardship to conduct this utility review.  If they identify errors or cost savings that benefit the church, they charge a fee for their work - basically an equal sharing of the credits or savings for three years.  Yes, your church could do this directly and retain 100% of the savings but, a) do you have people in your church with the expertise to do so?, and, b) will they actually get it done?  If the answer to either of these questions is "no", you have nothing to lose by engaging Cost Stewardship and potentially may save a significant amount of money.
