New York State Law: Training Videos Now Available

The State of New York has updated their website regarding mandated Sexual Harassment training for all employers in NY. As you learned in my previous emails, the law requires all employers to create and publish a Sexual Harassment Policy and Complaint Form, as well as introduce annual employee training.

The NY Division of Human Rights has templates available for our use and has recently added two training videos, each approximately 20 minutes in duration.  Click here to view the employer's information section and scroll down to the Training Video Section. Viewing the videos with your staff will meet the training requirement, as long as you include an interactive discussion about the materials.

Employers must document the training.  I suggest a simple form including the employee name, date and place of training and their signature.

For New York City Churches: The New York City Commission on Human Rights is partnering with the New York State Division of Human Rights and the New York State Department of Labor so that NYC-based employers can meet compliance with both the New York State and New York City training requirements by utilizing the forthcoming online training provided by the New York City Commission on Human Rights. The online training will be available on or before April 1, 2019.

For now, NYC churches should comply with the requirements of the state law and provide the written materials mandated by NYC Human Rights Commission which can be found on their website

I'll keep in touch as this more information becomes available.

Warm regards,

Sally
