Tip the ScalesAgainst Malaria

The New York Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church has committed to raise $1,200,000 by 2015 to support Imagine No Malaria. So far, we have contributed & pledged $500,000.

Rev. Bill Shillady announced at Annual Conference that the Conference Board of Pension and Health Benefits has pledged to donate $1 for each pound lost by our NYAC members, up to $10,000! This weight loss challenge is open to clergy, spouses & lay employees of the conference.

The challenge will run for six months, July 1 – December 31, 2014.

Just send me your name, church affiliation, email address and current weight: struglia@nyac.com (Trust me; I will keep this information confidential!)  Once you are registered, I will check-in with you monthly but won’t ask any questions about your weight until the challenge ends.  At the end of the year, I will add up all of our lost pounds.  I am sure that together we can lose thousands of pounds.

John Wesley wrote often of the great importance of exercise and healthy living, noting “Every day of your life take a least one hour’s exercise….Let nothing hinder you. Your life is at stake.” With this weight loss challenge, you will improve your health and help save the lives of those living in regions affected by malaria.

Malaria is 100% preventable but still kills someone every minute of every day. Let’s join together with Imagine No Malaria and tip the scales against the ‘skeeters!’

As a Conference, we can get healthy and fit as we work together toward the eradication of malaria.
