The Archives Helps Solve a Mystery in Brooklyn
It is always a pleasure to help solve a long-standing mystery for a researcher, and this past week I was fortunate to be able to assist New York flutist Sato Moughalian in her search for an altar constructed by her grandfather David Ohannessian. Mr.Ohannessian was a ceramic artist who created beautiful ceramic tile installations in many parts of the world, including an altar in the "Episcopal Methodist Church in Brooklyn, NY," probably sometime in the 1930s. Unfortunately, that general description could fit more than 40 churches, but after some detective work on both our parts, Ms. Moughalian was able to determine that the church in question was Hanson Place Central UMC in Brooklyn. You can read more about her discovery, and her recent visit to the church to see and photograph the altar, on her blog.
