The New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (NYAC) is tasked with helping our churches build up a healthy body of Christ, enriching the lives of their members and helping to bring love, justice and hope into their communities for the transformation of those communities and the world.

The Director of Leadership Development & Intercultural Competency will provide models to help the New York Annual Conference develop and equip transformational leaders to make disciples and grow vital congregations that impact change in the world.  This position also works to create systems, structures and venues for inter-cultural awareness and training, with the goal of creating a more unified approach to relationships and shared ministry within the Annual Conference.

The Director will work with the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and the Conference Board of Laity to deliver relevant solutions aimed at improving leadership skills across the system as well as sharpen and revise “Compass Program.” 
  
The Director will work to enhance the creation of a New York Annual Conference Cooperative Parish Network and the Bishop’s “Leading Leaders to Lead” program with special emphasis on the development of a conference-wide coaching program for clergy as well as the development of clergy clusters that will focus on mutual accountability and group learning.

The Director will explore how to increase a “culture of call” within the Annual Conference with special emphasis on collaboration with:  the Coordinator of Youth Ministry, the Coordinator of Camping Ministry as well as the Cabinet and pastors in vital congregations.  They will work with the Director of Congregational Development and Revitalization to explore the possibility of creating an “incubator appointment” of young clergy/seminary students.

They will insure that all developmental processes are aligned, valid, appropriately resourced and measured against the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the Annual Conference.

The Director will stay current on leading trends in leadership development, and be a stimulator of thought for the bishop, director level positions within the Annual Conference, the Cabinet, the Board of Ordained Ministry, and the Board of Laity on leadership development best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a deep understanding of and personal commitment to the Christian faith, with a willingness and ability to apply that commitment to the area of leadership development and inter-cultural competency within the New York Annual Conference.
  • Possess proficient knowledge of the United Methodist Church and its various expressions of organization and leadership.
  • Possess a deep expertise in developing leaders at all levels and a demonstrated proficiency and success in team building, leadership development, and organization.
  • Possess a history of building and fostering positive relationships, both internally and externally. 
  • Possess a positive personality that can build meaningful relationships and enthusiastically promote the developing program of leadership development and inter-cultural competency within the New York Annual Conference.
  • A strong communicator with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.  Able to effectively communicate complex topics/concepts so the target audience can understand and grasp the need as well as the goal.
  • Possess excellent project management skills including planning, logistics, program management, scheduling and budget development/adherence.
  • Demonstrate skill in organization, time and priority management, and project completion.
  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively cope with the struggles associated with change as well as an ability to shift gears comfortably between strategy, design, and implementation in order to get the job accomplished efficiently and effectively.
This full-time, exempt position has a salary range of $69,000-$79,000 and receive full health insurance and pension benefits.
