The New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (NYAC) is tasked with helping our churches build up a healthy body of Christ, enriching the lives of their members and helping to bring love, justice and hope into their communities for the transformation of those communities and the world.

The Youth Ministry Coordinator provides creative and administrative oversight for Youth Ministries within the New York Annual Conference.  This position also provides inspired leadership and resources to facilitate youth ministry at the local church and district levels.

The Coordinator must show demonstrated leadership and abilities in the following areas: Ability to re-establish the Conference Council on Youth Ministries (CCYM) giving special attention and representation to all six geographic districts. The Coordinator will need to establish a process to select members, facilitate meetings, create a comprehensive program of youth ministry, and re-establish the Youth Service Fund (including promotions, fund raising, grant applications and awards). They will be responsible to plan and lead events and programs for youth within our conference, building cross-cultural relationships and competency. Proficiency in social media as a positive tool for recruitment and messaging is required.

The Coordinator must demonstrate an ability to work as a key member of a team consisting of the Bishop, District of Connectional Ministries, District Superintendents and consult with ministers and laity to identify and establish a youth ministry program in each district.  They must be able to coordinate annual Confirmation Rallies, collaborate with the Missions Coordinator on Youth Ambassador Mission trips and explore and promote additional mission opportunities.  The Coordinator will work with the Camping Ministries to develop and explore opportunities for youth leadership and growth.

The Coordinator will be available to consult and resource local churches in the establishment or re-invigoration of youth ministries, including but not limited to the visitation to local churches to learn how the Annual Conference may support them in their unique ministry context(s); actively promote and encourage youth participation in the General Church rallies and forums, local and regional events and specifically recruit youth for participation at the Annual Conference.

Qualifications include:

  • A deep understanding of and personal commitment to the Christian faith, with a willingness and ability to apply that commitment to the youth and youth leadership of the New York Annual Conference. A positive personality that can build meaningful relationships and enthusiastically promote the developing program of youth ministry
  • Proficient knowledge of the United Methodist Church and its various expressions of youth ministry. Success in disciple-making and disciple-nurturing ministries for youth and their families. A proven self-motivator with skills in planning, implementation, and evaluation. Demonstrated skill in organization, leadership development, time and priority management, and project completion.
  • Able to develop, present and administer an annual budget for all strategies, and work with the CFO and finance department to understand and adhere to the NYAC budget policies and procedures

This full time, exempt position has a salary range of $45,000-$55,000 with full benefits.
