J. Michael Cobb

Reverend Jon Michael Cobb is passionate about ministries revolving around justice and inclusion. Rev. Cobb enjoys bringing his many entrepreneurial experiences and enthusiasm for aspects of pop culture into his ministry.

A graduate of Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Rev. Cobb went on to earn a Certificate of Professional Ministry from Hartford Seminary in 2015. Two years later, he received a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) from Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Connecticut.

Rev. Cobb also completed coursework at Wilmore, Kentucky’s Asbury Theological Seminary to meet additional requirements for service within the United Methodist Church (UMC).

For the first half of his career, Rev. Cobb focused on public relations and branding for specialty finance companies in the franchise, telecom and energy industries. He managed public relations and marketing on behalf of a range of companies, from start-up businesses to two units of Royal Dutch/Shell.

Rev. Cobb did similar work for various nonprofits, including advocacy for homeless and immigrant populations with the Association for Religious Communities.

He was also Director of Outreach and Communications for the Religious Institute, where he advocated for sexual justice and education in faith communities and society at large. His other major nonprofit engagement included work for the National Black Justice Coalition, a national nonprofit advocating for African-American LGBT civil rights, and he has also held various consulting positions.

Within the New York Annual Conference, Rev. Cobb has served at Rowayton UMC; Yorktown UMC; and with Open Doors Community Parish, a four-congregation cooperative charge including Grace UMC in Putnam Valley, Cold Spring UMC, South Highlands UMC and Van Cortlandt Community Church.

He also held an extension ministry appointment to the Association of Religious Communities, where he served as a Homeless Advocate from 2018 through 2019.
