Minister Barbara L. Whitlow loves learning about other languages and cultures and is passionate about cultural bridge building and working towards establishing the “Beloved Community.”
Min. Whitlow holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College in New York City and a Master of Divinity degree from Drew University.
While at Drew, Min. Whitlow was the recipient of the Dr. R. Benjamin Garrison Award for Preaching and Academic Achievement, the Sampson-McCann Award for Social Justice Advocacy and Urban Ministry and the John Heston Willey Prize, presented to the student who excels in pulpit oratory and manner.
Min. Whitlow is a nationally certified ASL interpreter. Her advocacy and ministry work with deaf, deaf-blind ministry, international asylum refugees, HIV/AIDS and at-risk teens has allowed her to travel to Romania, Hungary, Germany, Zambia, Zimbabwe and throughout the US.
Min. Whitlow lives in Queens with her husband of 18 years, William, and her dog, Jordan River.
