Electing Laity for Special General Conference February 23-26, 2019 in St. Louis Missouri

As you know there will be delegate elections at the 2018 Annual Conference for the Special General Conference in February 2019. There is a process for putting your name forward as a candidate.  And, there are requirements to be a candidate.

To be eligible the prospective lay delegate shall have been a member of the Methodist Church for at least two years prior to the election and shall have been an active participant in the Methodist Church for at least four years prior to the election.  In addition, lay members must be members of a church within the annual conference electing them. (Rule 88)

The following are the requirements to begin the process.  An eligible person shall declare her/his desire to be a candidate by submitting a statement of intent.  Click here to download that form: Lay-Delegate-Statement-of-Intent.docx  It includes a nominations statement, a short biographical sketch and a picture (Rule 89a).

If you are not the elected lay member of annual conference, please include a certification from your administrative board or church council chair.  This document should verify that you meet the membership and activity requirements previously stated, (Rule 88).
