Morning Workshops

Staff Parish Relations Committee 

This workshop provides an opportunity to ask questions and network with SPRC members from other churches. It is mandatory for all new SPRC chairpersons. Learn about resources for SPRC committees who are working with new and newly appointed pastors.

Trustees in the 21st Century

We will cover in-depth Trustee work, including care of church buildings and parsonage requirements.  We will also discuss investing how to's, procedures for seeking grant money and Parish Development opportunities.  We will emphasize potential new ways to address Trustee issues - 21st century trustees!

Finances and Statistical Tables

If you have attended this session in the past, come again!  Who should come?  Finance Chairs, Treasurers, Financial Secretaries and church leaders interested in finance.  We will review of all aspects of local church finance – job descriptions of finance committee (including the financial secretary), operating budgets, apportionments, statistical tables, IRS forms and more. We will learn what is new, and explore ways to use the NYAC website as a reference for questions. 

Afternoon  Workshops

Drug Awareness Workshop

Back by popular demand!  How would you respond to some of these situations?  My spouse/partner is drinking too much; I found pills in my child’s backpack; I think I need to go to rehab.  This workshop will help you to gain some understanding of the impact drugs can have on the brain. Learn how to find the resources you may need in your city/town/county. And more! 

Thrift Shops 

Let’s share information about our Thrift Shops. How are they operating?  What are best practices?  Where does the income go?  How are we tracking the income?  Are we paying appropriate taxes? Where are the thrift shops located?  How often are they open?  What if my church wants to start a Thrift Shop?  There are so many aspects of Thrift Shops that we can discuss!   We will also consider what a Cooperative Thrift Shop might look like (as the Bishop has suggested in his Cooperative Parish Meetings). 

Church Preparedness 

Does your church have an emergency plan?  Are our churches (small, medium and large) and personnel safe? Do you have fire/safety drills, and how do they work?  Do you have a plan if an intruder enters the building?  Who do we call in an emergency, and is that information posted in visible places?  Who is responsible in a crisis situation?  Crime prevention, fire safety, pastoral safety and more will be covered. This is time for the church leadership to begin to develop a plan and educate the congregation.
