Membership & Nurture Evangelism

By Jerry Zachman, Chair, First UMC, Amityville NY

We participated in the July 4th parade with boomwhackers, marchers, flag bearers etc. We gave away cards to 18-34 year olds that will enable them to download music from the Web site for the UMC.

We are going to bring coffee to the day laborers at Home Depot once a week. Anyone interested in helping in this ministry please let the committee know. We are asking that you drop off money in the coffee basket on Sundays to help offset this cost. These people are really struggling this season, due to the rainy weather they can't work and feed their families. Jesus commanded us to feed the poor, to love our neighbors as we do ourselves. This is a perfect opportunity to help those in need right in our own backyard.

We are working on some other ways to help these people out. If you think you want to be a part of this ministry please contact me or the office.

We are still looking into tutoring at-risk children in the Amityville school district. We have to wait until September to get started but we hope to get all set up over the summer vacation.

We are trying to get a visitation program going and again we need some help from you. If you can spare some time, any time at all, please let us know.

Our next meeting will be July 28 at 7:30 p.m. please come if you are interested in seeing what you can do to help out.
