Bishop McLee's Statement

Dear New York Annual Conference Family:

This acknowledges that the complaint in the matter of the Reverend Dr. Thomas W. Ogletree has been scheduled for trial. A church trial is a final effort to resolve a formal complaint when there has been an alleged violation of a provision of the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church. The process of adjudication also allows for an opportunity to avoid a church trial by arriving at a just resolution. A just resolution is a settlement that can occur at any time during the complaint process right up to and during an actual trial. It requires both the complainant and the respondent to agree on a negotiated solution to the filed complaint. It is my hope and prayer that a just resolution can be arrived at and a trial can be avoided. During this most difficult time in the life of the church, I invite you to be in prayer for the Reverend Dr. Ogletree, the complainants and all who have a vested interest in this matter. God is still God and that is where our trust and hope lies.

All my prayers,

Bishop Martin D. McLee
