The Reverend Dr. Richard E. Smeltzer

Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of the Rev. Dr. Richard E. Smeltzer, who died yesterday April 28, 2013, in Maryland. His appointment history includes Litchfield-Bantam (1953-54), Hamden Plains (1954-66), Seacliff (1966-75), Superintendent of the Connecticut Central District (1975-81), and Hicksville (1981-1997), prior to entering the retired relationship.

A personal note from Conference Secretary Rev. Fred Jackson: Dick was my predecessor at Hicksville, following 16 years of service. As appointments go, that was a long term, but he prepared the way by caring about the church and the transition of one pastor to another. He cared about me, my family and my ministry. I honor Dick for modeling an effective transition in pastoral appointments!
