Ms. Ann Livingston Carvalho
Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and service of Ann Livingston Carvalho who died on February 9, 2015. She was born November 7, 1937, in Atlanta, Texas. Ann obtained a BA in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MA in Science Education from Fairfield University in Connecticut. She was a Research Chemist at American Cyanamid Co.; a Chemistry Department Assistant and Teacher, State University of New York at Stony Brook; then spent many years as an Assistant Dean of the Graduate School, SUNY at Stony Brook.
Her retirement years were spent in North Carolina, singing in the Bryson City United Methodist Church choir, leading a dulcimer group, being a member of AAUW and the Red Hats, taking part in the local and state Senior Games, and hiking with the Recreation Department.
Ann was predeceased by her father, Connelly Livingston; her mother, Clyde Davis; her brother, John Livingston; her sister, June Post; and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Alan Carvalho (Retired Elder, NYAC 1996); a daughter, Dyan Newlin; son-in-law, Billy Newlin; grandchild, Wil Newlin; sister-in-law, Dorothy Noble; brother-in-law, Warren Noble; sister-in-law, Patsy Livingston; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2015, 1 PM, at the Bryson City United Methodist Church, Bryson City, NC, 76 Main Street, Bryson City, NC 28713.
Memorials in the name of Ann L. Carvalho may be given to the Music Department Endowment or Scholarship Fund of Western Carolina University, Highway 107, Cullowhee, NC 28723, or to the music fund of the Bryson City United Methodist Church.
