Mrs. Doris Robbins

Mrs. Doris Robbins

Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Doris Robbins, 92, who died on November 10, 2016 at Oak Hill Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MN.

Mrs. Robbins was the widow of Rev. William Robbins, who served the Vail's Gate, Woodycrest, and Yorktown Heights churches in the New York Conference in the 1940s and 1950s. He retired in 1985 and died on October 17, 2008.

Dori was born in the Åland Islands, Finland. She was the daughter of Leonard and Mildred Gronlund. When she was six the family settled in Brooklyn, NY. She met Rev. Robbins while in nursing school and they married in 1944. They had one year together before he joined the Navy as a chaplain. Beginning in 1946 Dori spent several years as a pastor’s wife and mother in the New York area before moving upstate. For the next 20 years she enjoyed a nursing career working in hospitals, in public health nursing, and in home health care in Utica and Albany, NY.

Bill and Dori then moved to Richmond, VA for 16 years, where he taught at Virginia Tech. They returned to New York City briefly before moving to Minnesota to be closer to their children. Throughout her life, Dori's Swedish language and heritage were important to her.

She is survived by her daughter, Betsey Norgard and her husband, Allen, of Bovey, MN; her son, Bruce Robbins, of Minneapolis, MN; and two grandchildren, Casey of Brooklyn, NY and Adam and his wife, Jen, of New York, NY.

A memorial service will be held at a time when family can be present. Arrangements are by Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine, MN.
