Let us remember the life and ministry of Barbara Bauer, 83, of Naugatuck, CT, who died on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Barbara was the widow of Rev. Roger L. Bauer.
Barbara was born on October 28, 1935 in Derby, CT, the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Vazur Amalavage. She worked as a nurse for the Naugatuck Visiting Nurse Association. Barbara attended the Naugatuck United Methodist Church.
She married Rev. Roger Bauer in 1978. Rev. Bauer served churches in the New York Conference for more than 30 years, including Kensington, CT, Goodsell UMC in Brooklyn, Richmond Hill United and Ozone Park in Queens, St. Paul’s UMC in Northport, NY, and Wappingers Falls, NY. He retired in 1998, serving First UMC of Thomaston, CT and Westville UMC in New Haven, CT in retirement. He died in 2007.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Lorraine Amalavage of Seymour, CT; and by her step-children, Leslie Egensteiner (Warren) of Shelton, CT; Colleen Bauer of Gainsville, GA; Roger Donovan Bauer of New Mexico; and Adam Thomas Bauer (Deb) of Waterbury, CT. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Art, Matthew, Stephanie, Aaron, Sierra, Lashay & Crystal; and by seven great-step-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister Janet Amalavage.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the Jenkins King and Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia, CT. A memorial service will follow at 7:00pm.
