Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Cornelia F. Neale, 97, who died on December 29, 2016 at Palm Village in Reedley, CA. Cornelia was born January 29, 1919 in Washington, CT.

Mrs. Neale was the widow of Rev. Latimer Baker Neale, who served in the New York East and New York Conferences for 37 years. Churches he served were: Centerport, Great Neck, Orient, Southold and East Meadow on Long Island, and St. Paul’s UMC in Middletown, NY. He also served as executive secretary of the conference board of education, first for New York East and later for New York. Rev. Neale’s last appointment was as district superintendent of the Hudson North District from 1974 to 1980. He retired in 1980 and died in 2006.

Cornelia attended Connecticut College for Teachers in New Britain, CT. She taught in elementary schools while assisting her husband in the United Methodist churches he served, including schools in Bridgewater, Bethlehem and Cos Cob, CT and Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, NY.

Cornelia and Latimer retired to California to be near their family. Cornelia enjoyed knitting caps for newborn babies and reading American biographies. She created and led a support group for the spouses of persons with dementia, wrote her autobiography and served her community.

Cornelia is survived by her three sons and their families: Philip W. Neale of Lebanon, IL; Latimer Ford Neale and Diane Y. Neale of Malibu, CA; Gordon Lewis Neale and Kathryn Mundy S. Neale of Brevard, N.C.; grandchildren Benjamin, Georgia, Jules, Emma Rose, and Baker Neale; and great-grandchildren Rowan Neale and Houston Borgognoni.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Palm Village in Reedley, CA at 1:30 P.M. on January 23, 2016.
