Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Helen C. Hoyt, who died on November 19, 2015 at the age of 95.  Helen was the wife of the Reverend Paul Hoyt who was in ministry from 1943 until 1963 in the New England, Troy and Iowa conferences, and from 1963 until his retirement in 1984 in the New York Conference. Rev. Hoyt died in 2001.

Helen was born in Sanford, Florida in 1920. She graduated from Southern College in Lakeland, Florida as a math major. She met her husband while at Southern College, and they married in 1943. Together they served the many Methodist churches to which Rev. Hoyt was appointed, including those he served in the New York Conference:  Ashokan, Kerhonkson, Georgetown, East Norwich, Phoenicia and Lanesville. In 1984 they retired to Sarasota, Florida.

Substituting in schools whenever possible, Helen loved meeting and being with people. She was always active in the churches, especially in the United Methodist Women. In 1980 she was elected a laity delegate to General Conference. While living in Florida Helen was active in various groups, including the Thrift Shop at the Church of the Redeemer. She always had a ready smile and helping hand.

Mrs. Hoyt is survived by two children, William Hoyt of Raymond, ME and Patricia Waitley of Anadarko, OK; three grandchildren: Joanna and Zachary of Lacona NY and Carolyn Lumpkin of Fort Cobb OK; and two great grandchildren. In addition she is survived by a brother, William Chapman of Port Charlotte, FL, and a sister, Virginia Anza of Sanford, FL.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, Sarasota FL at 11:30 am on January 6, 2016. Her ashes will be scattered in the St. Francis Garden at Redeemer.
