Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Jayne Ellen Carpenter, 77, who died on October 4, 2016 at West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg, PA. Jayne was born October 21, 1938 in Baldwin, Long Island and was the daughter of the late Clifford W. and Anna A. (Jacobs) Low.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Rev. Dr. George H. Carpenter. Rev. Carpenter retired from the New York Conference in 2001. He served Marlboro UMC in NY; Middle Hope UMC in Newburgh, NY; First UMC in Port Jefferson, NY; Newtown UMC in Sandy Hook, CT; and as coordinator of the Upper Catskills Larger Parish at Margaretville UMC in NY.

Jayne was a Girl Scout leader on Long Island for many years, but spent the majority of her life as life partner to her husband’s ministry. She loved music and was a member of the choir in every church that her husband pastored. She was also the first female member of the Bethany Village Men’s Chorus. She was a current member of First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg and enjoyed a multitude of crafting projects in her free time.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her son, Joel H. Carpenter and his wife Karen of North Carolina, and her daughter, Ruth E. Carpenter of Mechanicsburg. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Low.

A memorial service will be held at Bethany Village at a future date to be announced.  Burial will take place privately in the Stanford Cemetery in Stanfordville, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Asbury Foundation Bethany Village Care Assurance Fund, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or to the Wesley Theological Seminary Rev. Dr. George and Jayne Carpenter Endowed Scholarship Fund, 4500 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016.
