Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Marion Rossman Thorn, 96, of Shelton, CT who died on April 7, 2017. Marion was born in Hudson, NY on November 6, 1920.
Mrs. Thorn was the widow of Rev. Ralph S. Thorn, Jr., who served the New York Conference for 38 years from 1942 to his retirement in 1980. Churches he served were: LaGrangeville and Pleasant Valley, NY; Garrettson and Hillside in Rhinebeck, NY; Castle Heights in White Plains, NY; Cold Spring and South Highland, NY; St. Luke’s in New Rochelle, NY; Asbury-Crestwood in Tuckahoe, NY; St. Paul’s in Hartford, CT; and UMC of Westville in New Haven, CT. Rev. Thorn died in 1995.
Marion had been an active member of the Spring Glen United Church of Christ in Hamden, CT. She retired as an accountant from Yale University, having served the departments of public health and molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Marion taught piano lessons in her home for over 40 years and continued playing for her assisted-living community in various plays and church services. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bridge with her friends.
In addition to her husband, Marion was predeceased by her daughters, Pamela Reader and Nan Thorn-Clements and her sister, Alyce Duntz. Marion will be remembered by her sons, Jeff Thorn and his wife, Norma, of Orange, CT, and Paul Thorn of North Haven, CT; her grandchildren, Cassi Clough and her husband, Rob, and Matt Clements; her great-grandchildren, James and Isabelle Clough and Olive Clements, and her nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service celebrating Marion’s life on Tuesday, April 18th at 11:00 am at Spring Glen United Church of Christ, 1825 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT. Interment will take place at a later date in the Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson NY.
