The Reverend Charles "Chick" Straut
The Reverend Charles "Chick" Straut
Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Rev. Charles “Chick” Straut, who entered the church triumphant on Saturday, December 29, 2018.
We received word of Chick’s passing from his daughter, Susan, on Sunday, and I quote her Facebook message:
“My name is Susan Straut Collard and I am the daughter of Charles Straut. My father went to God last night, and although our family is heart broken, we are working to make peace with it since we knew he was suffering. He was the center of our large family, the moral compass, the spiritual guide, the comforter, the supporter, and the best back scratcher. While we knew him as a loving father and husband, we know that others saw his light too in different ways: as a pastor, an activist, a surrogate father, and a friend. We feel your loss as well as our own, and we appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”
Chick was an important person in the life of the New York Annual Conference. His influence spread among so many of our clergy and laity.
Susan has announced the arrangements for the memorial service. A service to celebrate the life of Charles “Chick’ Straut will be Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Flatlands Reformed Church, 3931 Kings Highway, Brooklyn, NY 11210. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the service.
This abbreviated Let Us Remember is sent because the funeral is Saturday and I wanted all to be aware. A detailed Let Us Remember will be sent later this week.
Prayers for the Straut family and all whose life was touched by Chick.
