Robert "Bob" Miller
Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Robert Miller, 86, who died on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Robert was NYAC Conference Secretary from 2007 – 2010.
Robert, Bob, Miller was born on November 1, 1936. He moved to Bradenton, FL when he was 3 years old. He attended Manatee High School and graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Chemical Engineering. This jump started his lifelong career of working for Exxon Corporation. He became President of Exxon, in Japan.
He always loved his visits to Long Boat Key, FL and would include his many family members and close friends on those trips. He never forgot the importance of God and charity work in his life. He served as treasurer, and on the board of directors of many retirement homes. He drove for the Red Cross, and gave blood regularly. In Japan, Bob was president of the American Club. He was a water color and oil artist.
Bob joined the church in 1987 after his retirement from Exxon Oil Company. He kept searching for a church and fell in love with Norwalk United Methodist Church, which became Cornerstone Community Church after the merger with East Norwalk United Methodist Church. He was one of the stars of Cornerstone's constellation, a light that will not shine anymore but his memories will last forever in our hearts and minds.
Bob quickly became a pillar because of his knowledge and expertise in administration with the Exxon. He was very active in the church and participated in all areas of church activities. He was Lay Leader; participated in men’s covenant groups, participated in church visitation, and in the choir. He was a man of deep faith, and his life showed it in many ways for those who knew him. Bob had a heart of empathy, generosity, and compassion. He cared for others.
Bob was a founding member of the Leadership Team with the New York Annual Conference Wellspring Program, a two year spiritual growth program.
He is survived by nieces, grand nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews as well as many friends
