The Reverend Kathleen Meyerson

The Reverend Kathleen Meyerson

Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Rev. Kathleen (Kathi) Meyerson, 69, of Verbank, NY, who died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

Kathleen was born on July 29, 1952 in York Harbor, ME. She moved to Westchester County and graduated from John Jay High School in Katonah. She earned her degrees in education from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. Kathi was a physical education and health teacher at Lincoln Hall in Lincolndale, NY and a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Brewster, NY. She was active in the choir and many leadership positions. She was committed to outreach, activism against social injustices, racism, hunger and the homeless. She expressed that commitment through her active support of Brewster Cares, which provides a seasonal homeless shelter as well as other services.

Kathi was an eclectic person with vast interests. She sang in the Putnam Chorale, loved crafts (especially stained glass), played and umpired softball, and loved animals and motorcycles.

After her retirement from teaching, Kathi retired to New Hampshire where she became active as a lay speaker in her local church. She returned to New York and the NYAC in 2016 and became a licensed local pastor in the New York-Connecticut District, where she served the Southeastern Dutchess Cooperative Parish. Kathi was creative in her worship planning and was one of the first to move to online worship as Covid closed in-person worship. She was an active online member of Worship Design Studio and served on the NY Annual Conference worship design team.

Kathleen is survived by her wife, Stephanie Ross; her son, Tyler, and his wife, Elizabeth; and her twin brother, Timothy, and stepbrother, Jonathan. She was predeceased by her parents and her cherished canine, Little Man.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at First United Methodist Church of Brewster, with a reception to follow. The service will also be streamed via ZOOM and Facebook.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you might give in Kathi’s memory to any of the following: Putnam Chorale, Putnam Humane Society, Brewster Cares, First United Methodist Church of Brewster or Southeastern Dutchess Cooperative Parish.
