The Reverend Pearlena I. Lobban

The Reverend Pearlena I. Lobban

Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Rev. Pearlena I. Lobban, 68, of South Floral Park Long Island, NY, who passed away at Long Island Jewish Hospital in Valley Stream on Thursday, October 14, 2021.  She was born in Dallas Castle, Jamaica, West Indies on June 16, 1953, to Bernard and Beatrice Edwards.

Pearlena attended the Empire State College, University of New York where she earned her associate degree in Community and Human Services in 2009. Her love for ministry led her to pursue her studies at the New York Theological Seminary, where she earned a certificate in Christian Ministry in 2008, as well as a certificate in Old and New Testament Studies at the Bethel Bible Institute in 2006.

Pearlena mentored, pastored, and served faithfully the South Floral Park United Methodist Church as a lay speaker from 2005-2013. The New York Annual Conference licensed Rev. Lobban as a local pastor in 2013 and she was appointed to serve Long Island’s East Hampton United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Oceanside and Island Park United Methodist Church.

Rev. Lobban recently retired from Rikers Island Correctional Health Services after 14 years of service with the Nursing Department. While there, in addition to providing care, she also took the opportunity to offer hope and encouragement to the incarcerated and the staff.

She loved preaching, enjoyed singing, and had a great sense of humor. She always made the time to be a listening ear and gave sound advice whenever she was asked for counsel. She had an authentic relationship with God, and this was evident by the way she lived.

Pearlena is survived by her husband, Michael Lobban; her son, Edwin Hylton; four grandchildren; her mother, Beatrice Edwards; five sisters; two brothers; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

A wake will be on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Destiny Cathedral, 536 S Franklin Street, Hempstead, NY, 11550, with viewing from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and a service from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Moore Funeral Home: 54 West Jamaica Avenue, Valley Stream, NY 11580 on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 9:00 am.
