Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Rev. Richard Emerson Wiborg, of Newton, MA, who died at home on Monday, February 20, 2017.

Richard graduated from Jamaica High School in Queens, NY, Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, OH, and Union Theological Seminary in New York, NY. He served the New York Conference from 1962 to 1979, beginning his ordained ministry as youth minister at Five Points Mission on the Lower East Side. He was appointed to Summerfield-Hope United Methodist Church in New Haven, CT in 1965, and served there for 14 years. Dick joined the former Southern New England Conference in 1979, where he was director of the Council on Ministries until 1990. He then served St. John’s United Methodist Church in Watertown, MA for eight years. He retired in 2004.

He is survived by his wife and partner in ministry for fifty three years, Margaret; his sons, Christopher and his wife, Jill Kopeikin, of Mountain View, CA, and David and his wife, Amy, of Newton, MA; and four grandchildren, Lukas, Ella, Jasper and Greta.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00am at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 80 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Massachusetts Chapter or the Preachers’ Aid Society of New England.
