The Reverend Sherrie Dobbs Johnson

The Reverend Sherrie Dobbs Johnson

Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Rev. Sherrie Dobbs Johnson, wife of Bishop Alfred Johnson, who died on Friday, March 27, 2020. We will provide additional information as it is received. With the permission of Rev. Jeffry Wells of the United Methodist Church of the Village, here is the message sent to his congregation:

With a heavy heart, I write to share with you the news of the death on March 27 of Rev. Sherrie Dobbs Johnson, the spouse of Bishop Alfred Johnson, who served as the lead pastor of the Church of the Village from 2005 to 2015.

I spoke with Bishop Johnson this morning and expressed my deep sorrow and that of the whole Church of the Village community.

Sherrie had suffered from respiratory issues for many years and even with hospitalization, her body was not able to overcome the effects of COVID-19 infection. We extend our prayers and love to Bishop Johnson and his family.

Sherrie was a warm and compassionate human being and beloved by everyone who knew her in our congregation. On her Facebook page, she listed herself as a passionate "advocate for the poor and oppressed." She was a proud ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and said, "We're seriously into Jesus and love."

She paraphrased her favorite scripture verse in these words:
"Through the Spirit of God and Jesus Christ working in us, we can
do exceedingly, abundantly more than we can ask or even imagine."
      – Ephesians 3:21

Sherrie ran the race and kept the faith and allowed God to work through her abundantly for the kin-dom. We will miss her dearly.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jeff Wells
