The Reverend Sungnam Kim


Let us remember with thanksgiving the life and ministry of Rev. Sungnam Kim, of Norwood, NJ, formerly of Fresh Meadows, Queens, NY who died on Saturday, July 8, 2017.

Born in Korea on July 20, 1924, Rev. Kim, was ordained in Korea (Korean Methodist Church) and served three Korean Methodist churches there before he came to the New York Conference in 1978. He is a founding pastor of two churches in the New York Conference: Long Island Korean United Methodist Church, and Astoria Korean United Methodist Church where he served from 1978 to his retirement in 1990.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Dong Won Ham Kim; a son, Rev. Eunchun Kim and his wife Yoonmi, of Flushing; three daughters Rev. Heasun Kim and her husband, Hongkyu, of Bethesda, MD; Heakyung Hahn and her husband, Sanghwan, of Watchung,NJ, and Heain Choi and her husband, Seihee, of New Providence, NJ; a brother, three sisters, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His son, Rev. Eunchun Timothy Kim, is the pastor at United Methodist Korean Church of Central Queens.

The Service of Life, Death and Resurrection will be held Friday, July 14, at 8:00pm at Calvary Korean United Methodist Church, 572 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick, NJ. Rev. Kim's family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service starting at 6:00pm.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, July 15 at Arcola Korean United Methodist Church, 52 South Paramus Rd, Paramus, NJ. Interment will follow in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
